Recommended by a person in Rutland, in particular the corned beef hash. Found them out of corned beef hash, but if I waited 20 minutes it would be ready. I ordered their delicious pancakes with REAL maple syrup. While I was eating my meal, a cook appeared and gave me a gratis serving of the corned beef hash, which lived up to its reputation! A perfect diner, long counter with plenty of stools, friendly locals and 2 copies of the local newspaper for customers. Some obviously family members on the staff. One person I spoke with working behind the counter, said it was her day off but she was walking past and decided to stop in and help out for a while. I will be making a trip SOON back to Vermont to eat at The Wooden Soldier.

This is exactly the kind of hole-in-the-wall place that every diner should aspire to. Hearty menu, very fair prices, and real maple syrup for only a few bucks more. Gotta love anywhere that’ll give you $1.50 coffee with free refills and real milk to go in it. Worth the stop!

It was very quiet. Service was good. Food was absolutely amazing(perfect runny eggs and crispy bacon). Plan on stopping in again if I'm ever passing through. Order for four adults plus a plate of hash for the table to split and spent around $60.

From the warm welcome after the first footstep into their restaurant to the comforting level of hospitality along with the made-to-order food with a delectable essence of love, this restaurant and the folks running it invite you with open arms. They were open on Thanksgiving, giving folks from or out of town a true sense of community and a family to come back to. Albeit they were only serving breakfast on that day, they served it with a great conversation. They showed great pride in what they do and how they do it, appreciating both old and new faces. I’ve frequented this place a few times now, and I plan on plenty more visits.

The local diner. Breakfast and lunch. It gets busy around noon. Soup, burgers, solid comfort food. If you live here or are passing through put this one on your list.
